Who are we:

Sapwood Projects is an Event Management company focused on small scale community building events. We have a strong interest in facilitating a platform for interpersonal connections between all walks of life while providing high quality entertainment, workshops and gatherings.

“Sapwood”

The soft outer layers of recently formed wood between the heartwood and the bark, containing the functioning vascular tissue.

Events have an unique opportunity and (as some might say) responsibility to present the world with alternative thinking and push boundaries towards a more cohesive loving society. These spaces can showcase, in controlled measurable ways how we can change systems, teach / learn with high engagement and most of all use our creative minds for spontaneous fun and connection. Sapwood is the soft outer layers of recently formed wood between the heartwood and the bark. Sapwood Projects aims to be this flowing energized layer encompassing the event, protecting it and being a channel of life to the patrons. In this role we focus on providing a safe, caring environment for each person to let go of societies walls constructed to close us off. We aim to create an environment to learn, to connect, and to enjoy!

What do we do?

Since out inception on the 13th of October 2016, Sapwood has mainly owned and managed Bulga Beats Festival. BBF is a community music and arts event held in the rural town of Bulga at the foothills of the Wollemi National Park. Started by locals in 2015 and run by locals until Sapwood was created. We have run the event in 2017 and 2019 with 2020 and 2021 being postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

Sapwood Projects has also worked with other events including:

  • Curious Legends: Giant Puppet performances (nsw)
  • Singleton Council Fire Light event 2021 (nsw)
  • Saturday Night Live at the Cri 2019 – 2020 (nsw)
  • Mudbrick Making Workshop 2019 (nsw)
  • NEWKIND FESTIVAL 2017 (tas)
  • We have also donated our time to support many local community events with set up, PA systems and musical performances.

What does the future hold?

Sapwood Projects is, as the name suggests. A slow growing tree, we are taking our time to build and create something beautiful.

We will continue to run, build and grow Bulga Beats Festival each year. But are looking to work closer with our local community and Council to boost the arts industry within the Hunter Valley.

Tying in with BBF we have been working hard to create spaces for workshops, retreats and bushwalking in the Hunter Valley.
